Making up for the light snow

We have been lucky with the winter weather so far, that is until last night. In an 18 hour period, we went from zero to thirty - that's 30 cm (one foot). The difficult part of that much snow falling in a short period of time is keeping up with moving it.
Bless my new neighbour for coming to my rescue this morning and helping me. He casually walked across the road with a big snow blower and cleared the large mounds of snow while I shoveled the paths.

And yes, it was me who said to Richard -  'I think I can handle the snow with shoveling. We'll see how it goes before we get a snow blower'. Hmmm!
(Richard was plowing his way through the roads to get to the airport for a flight - oh what fun!).
The truth is that I would have soldiered through and it might have taken me another hour and more muscle to do it.

cleared for the time being

When I have to  decide to push myself on physical projects like lifting a piece of furniture or hauling a tree across the yard, I always chant to myself the famous little song : Just don't tell that little old ant, she can't move that rubber tree plant ........
I once shared this with my granddaughter, who giggled at the idea that it gave me the strength to finish the task. OK, so that and a strong independent streak married with a big dose of I can't let this beat me.

start chanting

My neighbour thought the snow blower would be too heavy for me to handle. But I'm willing to give it a go and it can't be any worse than lifting that volume of weight with a shovel.

It's not a secret that I'm not a winter girl, but the snow is always pretty to see ...... for maybe a snow fall or two. And then I'm so over it.

If you are traveling in the white prettiness of snow, be safe.

SNOW

** I had this post in a draft from a few weeks ago. Although the snow is now gone and the lawn is showing her green again, I thought it really is too pretty not to show you. So for those who think Christmas isn't complete without a snowfall ... here it is.

For someone who is a real summer girl, I can't resist the first pretty snowfall of the season. We received a blanket of snow today that left the trees painted in white flakes. I love how quiet the snow is. I stopped several times while shoveling the driveway just to hear the whisper of the snow falling. It really is a picture of beauty.

Our church - Saint Andrews, is pretty at any time, but especially with a winter wonderland framing it.

I may need to look back at this post in February when I'm fed up with the snow. But today it is a pretty picture.

How about you - are you a lover of summer or snow?

White Christmas

Everyone has their preferred style for Christmas decorating. It may be very rustic using natural elements from tree's and the yard, or maybe your preference is glitz and sparkle.

I love the vintage look of Christmas items that look like they might have a story to tell. I especially think this mixes well with new items sprinkled in to bring a bit of playfulness.

Albeit that I am not a lover of snow, there is something magical about this time of year that makes me yearn to see a 'little' bit of pretty white flakes.
Here is look at some of my favourite finds for a White Christmas............

I made this Martha Stewart wreath two years ago, I'm happy to say that it turned out exactly like the picture. People actually stopped by the front of the house to comment on how pretty it was {especially stunning on an black door}.
This might become a fresh wreath standard for me to make every year.

And the real reason seeing the flakes fall is exciting...............

My beautiful Daughter and her baby enjoying a 'first' sleigh ride last winter.

I look forward to more playing in the snow with the girls.

Welcome December

We don't have snow yet. This pretty picture is from our lawn two winters ago. December baby, in all of her charms, usually brings at least a dusting of snow and sometimes a beautiful blanket like this one.
