I'm guessing this photo was taken in the early 50's, how much things have changed since with 'self portraits'. Now we simply hold our camera phone up, flip the switch to reverse the lens and click a 'selfie'.
But some things haven't changed at all. The need to say - 'wait, let me fix my hair, do I have lipstick on'.

It's been a busy week ......... a Third Birthday celebration {how did our baby Granddaughter get to three years so fast}

Whew - it's been a busy week.

This is where I will be 'exercising' today.

Maybe I can bring a little Glamour to the weekend and wear the crown that Kya made at craft class this week.

Natalie Wood

There has suddenly been new interest in the details around the death of actress Natalie Wood. It has been thirty years since she drowned off her and husband Robert Wagner's private yacht near Catalina Island. And while there is no doubt that the tabloids will once again spin many stories around various theories, I thought it was important to recognize once again the beauty and talent of Natalie Wood.

Natalie appeared in 56 films and for the big screen and television; she was nominated for three Oscar's before she turned 25. Her acting career began when she was just 4 years old, but it was when she was 8 that she appeared in Miracle on 34th Street. It was this epic holiday film that first gained Natalie notoriety.

 

Natalie was only 16 years old when she played along side of James Dean in Rebel Without A Cause, a film that earned her a an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

 

Natalie had a fear of drowning after falling into a river and almost drowning at the age of nine while she was filming a movie. As a result of the accident Natalie's left wrist was left weakened with a slight bone protrusion, she wore oversized bracelets on her left wrist ever since that time to help distract away from it.

The invisible scar from the accident was much deeper; Natalie developed a fear of drowning and on several occasions adjustments were made while filming due to her concerns.

Natalie's beauty earned her many titles that noted her glamourous style including "The Most Beautiful Teenager in The World" by Life Magazine (1956). 

 

The petite beauty who was only 5 feet tall wore heels most of the time, and it was generally noted that her height was 5' 3" {her height in heels}. Natalie had a soft sexy style, vivid brown eyes and a generous smile.

Warren Beatty and Natalie Wood met and began their relationship when filming 'Splendour in the Grass' in 1961. After their relationship ended Natalie was so distraught that she attempted suicide. The yacht that Natalie and Wagner owned, and subsequently she drowned off of was named 'Splendour' - as a nod to the 1961 film.

Natalie married Robert Wagner twice - in 1972 and again in 1981. She was a Mother to two daughters - one with husband Richard Gregson and one with husband Robert Wagner.

The Heat Is On

We have experienced record breaking temperatures here this week. Today it was 38 degrees and with humidity, it felt like 45. It really was like hitting a wall when you stepped outdoors.
I have been tempted several times to run through water blasting sprinklers that I come across. Keep cool. Be safe in the heat.

Wedding Jitters

The night before the 'big day' ....... Every bride feels the pre-wedding excitement wrapped in anxiousness that can only be labeled 'the wedding jitters'. Now take that to an ultimate level with the knowledge that 2.5 Billion people will be watching you walk down the aisle, and it equates to a sleepless night.

Kate Middleton is about to venture not only into marriage, but a new and very public life as she weds Prince William. The media has remarked that Kate has had much 'guidance' over the recent months to prepare her for the event and changes. Thank heavens for that.

Steeped in tradition and elegance, it is no surprise that the Goring has been selected as the home away from home for many Royals and celebrities.

The Royal Men.............. well, they are more accustomed to the public eye. William, in his maturity and calm sense of himself, will still likely feel the excitement and jitters that every groom feels.

For any bride, the night before the wedding is the time to catch your breath and settle into a sense of calmness; if that is at all possible with the constant thought that the world will be watching your every move. With the strong likelihood of a constant hum of people hovering around the hotel for blocks, it's even more important that the Royal bridal party retreat to an oasis within their suites.

Surround yourself with people who add calmness, it's not a place for your nervous, fretful friend. Add a bit of bubbly............ a luxuriously warm bubble bath with a glass of champagne.

A massage therapist will be able to locate and dissolve the stress points that your body is wearing; and help with breathing techniques to assist you to sleep.

Pedi's and mani's are a must for the wedding party. It's a fun thing to share with your bridesmaids and Mother, and wonderfully relaxing.

When it's time to finally turn in for the night make sure that your room is dark and cooler rather than warm. Chose a distraction to the silence of the room (or outside noises) by putting your favourite playlist on your iPod; turn it on to a low volume setting in a free standing Pod player. Another option to block out sound and take you easily into slumber land is a white noise machine........... sure to do the trick.

When morning comes and you've slept more soundly than you imagined you could, you will be ready for your special day.

Make sure you start your day with long deep breaths......... and a breakfast with protein. Your nervous energy will eat through your body's insulin, take time throughout the morning to fuel your body.

The busy schedule of a Bride begins with hair styling and makeup application. Dab your favourite fragrance.......... the one he loves to nuzzle in at your neck. Wearing something Old, New, Borrowed and Blue, can be fun even if you are not traditional.

Have friends or your Mother assist you to get into your gown and shoes; this ensures that you do not accidentally get makeup on the dress. Your hairstylist should assist with your headpiece and veil.
For Kate Middleton it will mean a stylist who is experienced in securing a diamond tiara.

You are ready to go and enjoy your day. One last thing to do...... take a long look in the mirror directly into your own eyes, and know that you are about to make a commitment of love for life.
